Festflix Fun Fact:
"The Tooth" starring Shannon Collis (Inherent Vice, The Tender Bar), is a proof-of-concept for our feature script, BABY TEETH, which was the Best Horror Genre Winner in the 2022 Shore Scripts Feature Contest, and was featured in Coverfly's List of Lists for being one of the 10 Most Downloaded Scripts in 2023.

Given the successes of other horror directors with shorts like David F. Sandberg's "Lights Out," Mike Flanagan's "Oculus," and more recently Bryce McGuire and Rod Blackhurst's "Night Swim," we saw an opportunity to better ourselves as directors and use this as an indicator that we have the ability to potentially direct the feature (or any feature, we’ve got plenty of ideas cooking!)

We shot this for $7K on our incredibly talented DP Brianna Goldberg's Sony FX3. Production was three days, two in Connecticut and one in Brooklyn, NY. Production ran smoothly but once we got in the edit we realized we were having a tough time selling the tooth black that our wonderful HMU/SPFX MU Alina Rose used to hide our lead's tooth in the opening scene.

We went back and forth with our colorist (and Key Grip and On-Set Photographer and jack of all trades) Evan Bradley about what to do. We tried going frame by frame but there were issues with her tongue moving behind the actual tooth, etc. that led us to standing at Evan’s kitchen counter with a macro lens on a Fujifilm X-T4, a $30 denture model from Amazon, and a ton of fake blood. We loved the shot so much that it became our poster!

Ultimately, our main takeaway from this short was that no matter how much we work towards "professional" or whatever our moving target idea of success is, the beauty of filmmaking is that sometimes the solution is the exact same popsicle-sticks-and-glue solution we would have done if we shot this with on an old Canon Rebel T6i in high school.
